Cheapskate … who me?

There are many blogs on being a cheapskate.  Some even call it the fine art of being a cheapskate.  Most bloggers will equate being frugal with being a cheapskate.  In all the reading that I have done, I have found that frugal people are not really miserly people.  They are selective people.  Frugal people have goals.  They know why they are cutting back and saving.  They are not afraid to spend it if the opportunity is right.

According to the true definition of cheapskate, it means miserly. Miserly people, I suppose, are selective as well.  They select not spend any of their money.  They are not saving their money for anything special.

  • Frugal People Coupon.

A frugal person will do their homework before going to the grocery store.  They will study the circulars and scour every publication for coupons.  They will go to the store prepared.  They will religiously fill out the rebate offers and send them in.  They will buy in large quantities at a good price, because they know in the long run they are saving their family money.   Some frugal people will do their batch shopping one time a month, some prefer twice a month.

  • Batch cooking helps cut costs.

Frugal people will often times batch cook.  They will make multiple dishes and freeze them for a later date.  They will label and date packages.  As freezer supplies dwindle, they will start the process all over again.

  • How to tell a miserly person.

You can oftentimes tell a true miserly person.  They are usually the ones with the long faces.  They rarely smile.  They look down trodden most all the time.   Miserly people are usually the ones that gripe and complain all the time about everything, but don’t do a whole lot about anything.   They are the ones that if someone comes up and asks them for any money they will smirk and quickly say “NO.”  Miserly people love their money and don’t want to part with it.  They are often the ones that people will joke and say “You’ll see an armored truck following their hearst.  Their money is going to be buried with them.”

There is a difference in being a miser and being frugal.  The definition of cheapskate may even be changing. Just my opinion, though. You’ll have to make up your own minds about the differences.

Check back in the upcoming days. I’ll post some reviews of some good frugal/cheapskate sites.
